Injector – Alumina – 0.85mm ID

An alumina injector (aka, ceramic injector) is a component used in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) optical emission spectrometer (OES) to deliver a sample aerosol into the plasma region.

Why an Alumina Injector?

Alumina injectors are made from alumina, a ceramic material primarily made of aluminum oxide. They are used when samples contain high levels of alkali metals, such as lithium-battery materials, or hydrofluoric (HF) acid digests. Alumina injectors are more resistant to these substances than quartz injectors, which free HF can degrade. Alumina injectors are also corrosion-resistant to all mineral acids, including aqua regia.

In addition, alumina injectors are available in different inner diameters, and the size you need depends on the type of sample you’re analyzing:

  • 0.8 mm for 1.4 mm for analyzing organic solvents
  • 1.8 mm for aqueous analysis
  • 2.4 mm for samples with high total dissolved solids

Benefits of Alumina Injectors

Alumina injectors such as this Torch – Ceramic Base 1.5mm Alumina Injector – 275-10HF have several benefits:

Corrosion Resistance

  • Alumina injectors resist corrosion from all mineral acids, including aqua regia and HF.

Compatibility with Organic Solvents

  • Alumina injectors are good with less volatile organic solvents, such as xylene.

Reduced Downtime

  • Alumina injectors help minimize downtime and simplify cleaning.

Consistent Results

  • Alumina injectors provide consistent results before and after replacement, regardless of the number of analytes.

Ease of Maintenance

  • Alumina injectors are removable, therefore making them easier to change and maintain.

Reproducible and Accurate Dosages

  • Alumina injectors help ensure that small dosages are reproducible and accurate.

Alumina injectors are used with ICP-OES instruments from companies like PerkinElmer and Agilent. Of course, products from both of these important ICP manufacturers are here in our Precision Glassblowing marketplace.
